In this workshop:
Handknit socks are cozy, portable, and rewarding to make. This workshop introduces participants to the fundamentals of sock construction while guiding them through starting a cuff-down sock. Students will learn essential techniques including the anatomy of a sock, the relationship between the elements of the sock, turning a heel, and shaping the toe. By the end of class, participants will have a sock “mini-sample” and the knowledge to complete the project at home.

 

Skill Level: Adventurous Beginner / Intermediate

 

Necessary Skills: Basic knitting knowledge such as casting on, knit and purl stitches, basic increasing and decreasing.

 

Homework: Students should come to class with the leg portion of the "Garland Sock" completed.

Student Supplies:
Students should bring their completed homework to class. We will begin the heel flap portion of the "Garland Sock" together.

Students will need a total of 15-20 gms of fingering of DK weight yarn, preferred needles for working in the round in a small circumference (dpns, magic loop, or 2 circulars), stitch markers, and notions.  It is helpful for students to use the Zoom app during class to see instructor’s demonstrations up close, on their own devices.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Class Size: 2–15 students

Meet Your Instructor: Jana lives in southeast Wyoming with her husband of 36 years. He has learned to accept that she’s crazy cat lady with six indoor cats, and a whole clowder of barn cats. Jana hosts the Purl Together YouTube channel with over 70k subscribers. In 2022, her channel received the Knitting Circle's Best Vlog/YouTube Channel Award. Jana loves teaching knitting and is deeply committed to her students' experiences. When not knitting, she enjoys geocaching, and exploring the wilderness on backpacking trips.
